Disease
Research at the service of knowledge
The main challenge is to gain an in-depth understanding of the disease in order to identify and prioritize main actions to contain COVID-19, develop effective treatments and establish its impact on human health and well-being.
The aim of the DISEASE theme is to integrate and make available to the clinic and scientific community, in the shortest possible time, all the structural, genetic and biomedical information generated in the CSIC regarding SARS-CoV-2 with a focus on host-virus interactions. Basic knowledge of the virus and the disease, the basis for severity in patients, the body response to infection, the inflammatory reaction and its potential complications, the early detection of outbreaks, or the immune response of patients are important challenges that guide research on the pandemic.
Virus structure: in order to understand the biology of the disease.
Virus genetics: to understand the mechanisms of heritable information, genome structure, replication and genetic variability of SARS-CoV-2.
Infection and severity: to understand mechanisms of viral entry and replication and establish factors that condition severity. Analysis of the sequelae that may remain after infection.
Immune response: Research on the immune response to infection, persistence and recidivism.
